For 50 years, the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra has been presenting its audience with symphonic masterpieces and balanced and powerful programs from the rich repertoire of works by great masters. Under its umbrella, a unique platform offers young professionals the increasingly rare opportunity to participate in extraordinary concert projects beyond the boundaries of their studies and professional lives.
It is run by a non-profit association that supports the orchestra's mission as a musical ambassador and promoter of a peaceful world by integrating numerous young foreign artists living in Germany.

On THE GOLDEN ROOFS OF PRAGUE in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall!

For the 50th anniversary of the orchestra, Volker Hartung and the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra welcome their Cologne audience. The Cologne New Philharmonic returns to the Philharmonie.

With their traditional symphonic concert in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the famous group embarks on a musical journey to golden Prague this year! Thus inspired, the program begins on March 1, 2026, with the famous symphonic poem "Vltava" from the cycle "My Country" by Friedrich Smetana, in which the "father of Czech music" musically describes the course of the river from its source to its mouth. It is followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's splendid Symphony No. 38, which has become famous under the name "Prague Symphony."

In the second half of the concert, the Romance and the Mazurka for violin and orchestra, as well as the Slavonic Dances op. 46 by Anton Dvorak, will thrillingly conclude the program. The moderator and conductor is Volker Hartung. To wrap up the concert, the young virtuosos of the orchestra will once again ignite a festive fireworks display of virtuoso encores and will also look beyond Cologne and Prague.

We promise you an unforgettable experience!

The Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra with its programs from baroque to romanticism is characterised by virtuoso solo performances of the individual members of the ensemble, which gives the concerts an unusually colourful and interesting flair and enjoys great popularity due to their proximity to the audience.

Anyone who engages in a New Year's Concert of the Cologne New Philharmonic knows that on this day the light muse entertains with humorous and witty comments by principal conductor Volker Hartung.
The musicians have immersed themselves in the playing style and sound aesthetics of the time and interpret popular classical music in their unique style, framed by virtuosic solo pieces.

For many years, Volker Hartung has presented his audience with serious, cheerful, and at the same time contemplative programs from the rich repertoire of popular classical music in his charming manner.
